About Us

Hi, I'm Brandon

I started DC Electrics in 2019 after years of working on everything from farm machinery to jet boats. Now I run my own workshop on Heads Road where I can do the job properly - with the right tools, the right parts, and the time to actually diagnose issues instead of guessing.

Modern vehicles are complicated. When your check engine light comes on or your boat won't start, you need someone who actually understands the electrical systems - not just someone who'll throw parts at it and hope for the best. Modern vehicles run on computers, and when something goes wrong, you need proper diagnostic equipment to figure out what's actually happening. We use professional-grade scanners to read fault codes, test systems, and pinpoint issues - whether it's your check engine light, ABS warning, or something more complex. No guesswork, just accurate diagnostics that tell us exactly what needs fixing.

Dead batteries are the most common callout we get - usually at the worst possible time. Last week it was a farmer stuck out Kai Iwi with a flat tractor battery during cultivation. Week before, someone's boat battery died at the Castlecliff ramp right before a fishing trip. We test, supply, and fit batteries for everything from small hatchbacks to heavy trucks and tractors. We also install dual battery systems for 4WDs, auxiliary batteries for campervans, and high-capacity batteries for vehicles running extra equipment. If you're running accessories, fridges, or work gear, we'll set up a system that won't leave you stranded halfway through the day.

Whether you want Bluetooth connectivity in your older vehicle, a full sound system upgrade, or just speakers that actually work, we handle complete audio installations. Plenty of older Hiluxes and Mazdas around Whanganui still running factory stereos from the 90s - we bring them into this century. This includes head units, speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, and integrating new systems with your vehicle's existing wiring. We service and repair jet boat electrical systems, handle rewiring jobs, and sort out issues with starting systems, charging systems, and onboard electronics. If your jet boat's acting up electrically, we know what we're looking at. Seen everything from corroded connections causing intermittent starting to complete rewires after river mishaps.

More people are adding solar to their setups - campervans, boats, off-grid properties, and farm buildings. We install complete solar systems including panels, batteries, inverters, and charge controllers. Whether you're building an off-grid setup or just want to run your caravan independently without hunting for powered sites, we'll design and install a system that actually works for your needs. No point having solar if it can't run what you need it to run.

If you're modifying your vehicle or need electrical work for performance upgrades, we handle custom wiring, electrical system modifications, and installations of aftermarket equipment.
